TODAY'S CARD

DEATH

XIII

death has the worst reputation in the deck, and it arrives on a thursday at the very end of october, which feels about right for it.

it is almost never about dying. it is about the end of a shape you used to fit. a role, a name you answered to, a way of being in the room that made sense once and has quietly stopped making sense.

this comes up often in the years after forty-five. the children leave, the work changes, the body changes, and one day you hear yourself describing who you are and do not quite recognise the woman you are describing.

the card does not hurry you. something ending leaves room, and the room can stay empty for a while before anything new moves in. that in-between is uncomfortable, and it is also where a part of you that has been asleep for years tends to stir.

what is worth leaning into today: noticing which part of you feels most awake lately, even if it is small and a little embarrassing.

what is worth staying away from: holding on to a role only because you are afraid of who you would be without it. the fear makes sense, and it is still not a reason.

my advice for today: write the sentence i used to be the one who, and finish it a few times. read them back and decide which of those women you are ready to let rest.

if you could put down one old role this week, which would it be. tell me, if you like.

What Did George Washington Know About This 300-Year-Old Sound?

Before affirmations...

Before manifestation became popular...

There was reportedly a secret sound known only to a select circle of powerful men.

George Washington.

Benjamin Franklin.

Paul Revere.

According to the story, this sound was preserved through private ceremonies for generations.

And for over 300 years, outsiders were never allowed to hear it.

Until a 20-year member broke his oath of silence.

The first time he heard it, he says he felt something he couldn't explain.

A strange calm.

A powerful emotional release.

A feeling that something inside him had awakened.

Now this mysterious recording is being shared with people interested in unlocking their inner potential.

P.S. You don't need to believe in anything. Just listen and see what you experience.

option one. the agreeable one

you go along. you take the chair nobody wanted and agree to the restaurant you did not choose, because keeping the peace has always felt like your job.

agreeableness is often a skill learned early, in a house where friction felt risky or exhausting. it served you. the question now is whether it still does, or whether it has become a habit that hides what you actually think. a small experiment may help. this week, say your real preference once, about something low stakes, and see what happens. usually the room survives, and you learn something about yourself.

option two. the work self

the job gave you a title and a way of being useful that everyone understood. now it has changed, or simply stopped meaning what it did.

a lot of identity hides inside work, and when the work shifts it can feel like losing much more than a schedule. the skills did not leave with the title, though. it may help to list what you were actually good at, the real verbs rather than the job name. some of those verbs are waiting for somewhere new to go, and some may be ready to rest.

option three. the woman you were going to be

she had plans, a city and a craft. at some point the years made other decisions, and she went quiet.

she may be asleep rather than gone. the specific plans may have passed, and that loss deserves some respect. but what she wanted underneath them, the feeling she was chasing, often still has a way in. ask her what she was really after. you may find a smaller, later version of it that still fits the life you have now.
