Needed less is not the same as loved less

wednesday sags. the week is not new any more and not nearly over, and this tends to be the day you notice how quiet the phone has been.

the ten of pentacles is about what you built and who you built it for. it is the card of a family that works, and the strange thing about a family that works is that it eventually walks out of the door and manages perfectly well without you.

that was the outcome you wanted. you raised someone capable of not needing you every week. nobody warns you that success in this looks almost exactly like being forgotten, and that on a wednesday afternoon the two feel identical from the inside.

they are not identical. being needed less is not the same as being loved less, and today is worth spending on that gap, because the second story is the one that arrives uninvited whenever the first one is simply true.

what is worth leaning into today: making the contact you want instead of waiting to be contacted. a message that expects nothing back is not begging, it is just a message.

what is worth staying away from: keeping score of who called last. the tally is always accurate and it has never once made anybody call.

my advice for today: send the small thing. a photograph, a line about something that reminded you of them, nothing that requires a reply. people answer low-stakes contact far more often than they answer the loaded kind.
