TODAY'S CARD

THE EMPEROR

IV

the emperor is the card of order, rules and the firm hand, and it arrives on a friday, when the week has been long and the urge is either to push harder or to give up on the whole project.

many of us aim that firm hand at ourselves. we set the routine, the journal, the morning walk, the list of things to be grateful for, and then we mark our own work like a strict teacher, mostly in red.

when something does not seem to be working, the emperor in us has one answer, which is more effort. try harder, be more disciplined, start again monday.

this card has another side. a good ruler also knows when the structure is built and the rest is out of her hands. some things settle on their own once you stop gripping them.

what is worth leaning into today: the work you have already done. the habits you built and the reflection you put in are still there underneath, even on days you cannot feel them.

what is worth staying away from: deciding you did it wrong because it has not clicked yet. effort was never the only ingredient.

my advice for today: today, do one of your usual practices with no effort at all. no scoring, no trying to feel anything. let it happen and see what is different.

what is the practice you keep grading yourself on. tell me, and tell me what mark you give it.

What If You Were One Piece Away?

If you've been doing the visualizations... the affirmations... the gratitude journals…

...and wondering why it's not clicking yet...

You were closer than you think.

The visualizations work.

The affirmations work.

The gratitude journals work.

They just can't finish the job on their own.

Because they all rely on one thing: you.

Your effort.

Your focus.

Your willpower.

What if the final piece doesn't require any of that?

A small-town accountant recently broke a 20-year oath of secrecy... to share something he recorded inside a ceremony most people don't even know exists.

He's not a guru.

He's not a coach.

He's an accountant from Ohio who found the piece that makes everything else work.

The people who respond strongest to this are the ones who've already done the inner work.

Because everything they've built is still there.

It just finally has the missing piece underneath it.

Within the first 30 seconds, you'll feel it in your body.

Not because you're visualizing.

Not because you're trying.

Because this does the part you were never supposed to do yourself.

P.S. He didn't invent this.

He recorded it from a ceremony that's been performed in secret for over 300 years.

The people who guard it are not happy he's sharing it.

/ a story

the woman who did everything on the list

this comes up often. a woman in her fifties who has, by any fair measure, done the work. the journals and the walks, the classes, the books on her nightstand with the corners folded down. and she says some version of the same thing. i have done all of it, so why does it still not feel different.

the knight of pentacles. the steady one. this is the part of her that showed up every day whether she felt like it or not. it carries reliability, and for her it means the foundation is real. nothing she built has gone anywhere.

the five of wands. the noise. this is the inner argument, the voices that say she is doing it too slowly or too late. it carries friction, and for her it means the problem may be the commentary, not the effort.

the king of cups. the calm. this card is about letting feeling settle without forcing it. for her it means the last piece may be the one you cannot do by trying, the part where something works on you instead of you working on it.

if this sounds like you, it may help to know the work is not wasted. it may simply be waiting for you to stop standing over it.

if you have been working on yourself for a long time, tell me one thing that has changed that you rarely give yourself credit for.
