TODAY'S CARD

FOUR OF SWORDS

IV

the four of swords is the card of rest, real rest, and it arrives on a thursday in november, when the year has been long and the holidays have started to cast their shadow forward.

there is a tiredness that sleep does not touch. you go to bed early, you wake after eight hours, and you are still tired in a way that sits behind your eyes. this comes up often, and it is usually telling you something sleep alone cannot fix.

rest and sleep are related, and they are different. sleep is for the body. rest is the part where nothing is being asked of you, by anyone, including yourself. most women get some of the first and almost none of the second.

this card does not ask you to earn your rest first. it simply puts it in front of you. you are allowed to rest before you have earned it, and before everything is finished, because everything is never finished.

what is worth leaning into today: twenty minutes today where nothing is being asked of you. no task, no listening out for someone, no phone in your hand.

what is worth staying away from: calling the scroll on the sofa rest. your body may be still, but your mind is working the whole time.

my advice for today: put a short rest on your calendar like an appointment, and keep it the way you would keep one with your doctor.

when did you last rest in a way that actually worked. tell me what you were doing, i would like to know.

What Did George Washington Know About This 300-Year-Old Sound?

Before affirmations...

Before manifestation became popular...

There was reportedly a secret sound known only to a select circle of powerful men.

George Washington.

Benjamin Franklin.

Paul Revere.

According to the story, this sound was preserved through private ceremonies for generations.

And for over 300 years, outsiders were never allowed to hear it.

Until a 20-year member broke his oath of silence.

The first time he heard it, he says he felt something he couldn't explain.

A strange calm.

A powerful emotional release.

A feeling that something inside him had awakened.

Now this mysterious recording is being shared with people interested in unlocking their inner potential.

P.S. You don't need to believe in anything. Just listen and see what you experience.

option one. the tired from being fine

everyone thinks you are fine because you have always been fine. you answer the calls and hold the middle.

being the steady one is tiring in a way that rarely gets noticed, including by you. it may help to let one person see a little of the tiredness this week. you do not have to collapse to be allowed to lean. a single honest sentence, i am more tired than i look, can lighten more than you would expect.

option two. the tired from never switching off

even when you sit down, part of you is listening, for the phone or for whatever might go wrong next.

a mind that never fully switches off has usually learned that staying alert keeps things safe. it may have been true once. it is worth testing whether it is still true now. try one stretch this week where you deliberately stop listening, with a timer so you know you will come back. many women find the world holds together for twenty minutes without them.

option three. the tired from holding something unfelt

there is something you have not let yourself feel, a loss or a disappointment you never said out loud. you have been carrying it neatly so it does not spill.

holding a feeling back takes more energy than people realise. the effort does not show, but it adds up, and it can feel exactly like tiredness. you do not have to open the whole thing. sometimes a short private release is enough, a good cry in the car or a page written and thrown away. it often leaves more room than you expected.
