TODAY'S CARD

ACE OF WANDS

I

today's energy is a flicker rather than a plan. something you keep thinking about and keep putting back down, usually within the same minute, usually with the word impractical attached.

ace of wands sits at the very beginning of a want, before it has any justification. that is the stage where most of them die, and not because they were unrealistic. they die because a woman of our age has been trained to run every desire past a committee before she is allowed to feel it.

the committee asks whether it is sensible, what it costs, who it inconveniences, whether it is a bit late for that. those are reasonable questions for a decision. they are the wrong questions for a want, and asked too early they end the conversation before you learn anything.

wednesday is the flattest part of the week, which is oddly the right day for this. a want that survives a wednesday afternoon is worth taking seriously. and wanting something is not the same as committing to it, which means you are allowed to look at it for a while before deciding anything at all.

what is worth leaning into today: letting the thought stay for a full minute without arguing with it. no plan, no budget, no timeline. just the fact that you want it.

what is worth staying away from: explaining it to somebody who will be practical at it. a brand new want cannot survive a sensible relative on a wednesday. protect it for a bit longer.

my advice for today: do the twenty pound version of it. the sample, the single lesson, the afternoon of it. wants tell the truth much faster when they are given something small and real to happen inside.

write back and tell me the impractical thing. you do not have to defend it to me and i will not be sensible at you about it, which i suspect is rarer than it should be.

/ affirmations

say these out loud five times, in front of a mirror, right now, and notice which one your face does not believe

/ i am allowed to want it without earning it first

/ my wanting does not need to be useful to anyone

/ i can take up a little room without asking

/ it is not late, it is now, and now is what i have

/ i am permitted to be a beginner at the age i am

/ what i want tells me something true about me

/ i will not talk myself out of it before lunch

the fifth one catches most women out, and i want to know if it caught you. tell me which line you had to say twice before it would come out properly.
